This publication is designed to arouse interest in contemporary music and create a personal relationship with unconventional forms of music and music-making among the age group most receptive to these, that is, elementary school children. Melodic Exercises to Changes of Position

The series 'Music lessons - exercises, studies' has 48 volumes, six of which are dedicated to cellists. These add about 300 pieces to the cello étude repertoire. This volume by Natalya Baklanova concentrates mainly on position changing, and among the series' volumes for cellists, only this one contains music with piano accompaniment. Hence the title 'melodic exercises' describing the pieces. Alongside technique, Baklanova's études assist in the practising of good ensemble playing.

The final journey to the poem by Juan Ramon Jimene

The work (dating from 1992), similarly to the earlier composition entitled Journey to Ixtlan, was composed by Sáry to the poem 'El viaje definitivo' by the famous Spanish poet Juan Ramón Jiménez, this time with the original Spanish text. The performers at the premiere in Budapest in 1993 were Adrienn Csengery, Gergely Ittzés, Sándor Nagy and Gábor Kósa.

Psalm 151

The text of this choral work is an old translation into English of a now apocryphal psalm taken from the Septuagint (the first Greek translation of the Old Testament). The psalm is to this day a canonized part of the Orthodox and the Coptic Bibles, and indeed the Hebrew original was found among the Dead Sea Scrolls.

This brand-new series is intended as a guide to the keyboard music of the 16th to 19th centuries for pupils of the piano and the harpsichord, as well as of other early keyboard instruments. Each volume contains pieces by well-known and lesser-known composers from one country or region. Letters from X, Fax from X, For 51 to LI

Letters from X was composed in 1981, Fax from X in 2003, and For 51 to LI in 2009. Not only the instruments but also the performers - all three works are dedicated to Zoltán Gyöngyössy and István Lukácsházi, and they were the first to perform them - connect the three duos, which were composed with rather long intervals between them. A duo for flute and double bass is rather unusual, yet that is precisely why it can suit the chamber repertoire of both instruments. The three pieces can also be played independently.

Eight Invocations to the Lunar Phases

Eight movements of differing character, which represent the various stages of a coherent astronomical and psychological process of the lunar phases. Starting the Piano : Introduction to tone and movement in modern music

Modern piano playing can be no more reduced to such technical and musical formulas as in the days of Liszt, Czerny or Dohnányi. The piano works of our contemporary composers do not demand the techniques of the classical scale, broken chords and series of parallel intervals: they are more inclined to demand from the performer a secure feeling for position, rich rhythmic imagination, a receptivity towards colour and dynamics which will become apparent in refined nuances of touch, the capacity for lightning adaptation in quickly changing ways of playing - in other words, a richness of colour in playing the instrument which was unimaginable in earlier times. For the carrying outof these demands increased training is required in the kinds of movement used in playing but well developed hearing is also important for the performer to be able to control the sounding variety.

Two Dirges : for soprano and chamber ensemble to poems by Sándor Weöres

Unusual in Maros's ?uvre are Two Dirges (1962?63) for solo soprano and chamber ensemble, as vocal composition was not a central interest of his. This song cycle with instrumental accompaniment comes right before the great stylistic change found in the Euphonies, and sheds sensitive light on the composing directions he was considering. The cycle, set to verses by Sándor Weöres, recalls ancient rituals, whose musical portrayal is helped by arrestingly strong use of percussion to show the primitive side of such music. Meanwhile the vocal line brings out the melodic traits of Hungarian folk song. (Anna Dalos)

Ligatura-Message to Frances-Marie op. 31b : (The answered-unanswered question)

The original version of the piece, Message to Frances Marie, op. 31a was composed for cello solo with two bows for the American cellist Frances Marie Uitti. The subtitle refers to the title of a composition by Charles Ives. The condensed piece of Webernian density which is built upon a homogeneous sequence of chords can be played by three different groups of instruments: A: one cello with two bows, two violins and celesta B: two cellos, two violins and celesta C: two organs and celesta (or upright piano). Written in 1989 the premiere of the work was given at the ISCM Festival in Oslo by F.-M. Uitti, Kjell Arne Jörgensen and Eileen Siegtel in September 25,1990.

Three chinese quatrains to poems by Li Tai-Po, in

The work by Zsolt Serei entitled Three Chinese Quatrains, for soprano voice and piano, was composed in 1996-97 to verses by the 7th-century Chinese poet Li Tai-Po. The atmosphere of these songs, linked into a unified cycle by their shared soundsystem and connecting piano sections, is characterized by a fragile equilibrium of fantasy-like, extreme emotional states. To the 100 years old -Hommage a Takács Jeno 100 : for string orchestra

The work was dedicated to the Hungarian composer, ethnomusicologist and teacher Jen Takács (1902-2005) for his 100th birthday. The hitherto unpublished short piece will be premiered by the Staatskapelle Dresden on 22 September 2015 in Dresden under the direction of Alessandro Marchi.

lines, words, letters... to poems by Parti Nagy fo

This composition written in 2002 has five movements (I: a sort of canon, II: interlude 1, III: (hexameter), IV: interlude 2, V: false copy ). Three of the songs composed to verses by Lajos Parti Nagy examine the structure of the texts. The musical structure in the first song is based on a canon that develops from rotating the lines, in the third song it is based on the rhythms created by splitting words and syllables, in the fifth song it is based on the series of sound effects resulting from completely mixing up the individual letters and sounds. The rigorously structured movements consist of short dramatic episodes, each presenting an unusual life situation (interlude 1,interlude 2). The work, commissioned by Judit Rajk, had its premiere in 2006 in Budapest (Palace of Arts, Festival Theatre).

Journey to Ixtlan to a fragment of the poem by Jua

This composition for soprano and chamber ensemble was inspired by the incomparably beautiful poem El viaje definitivo by the Spanish poet Juan Ramón Jiménez, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1956 (the German translation of the poemis included in the score). The piece can be performed by several possible ensembles: 1) soprano and 12 stringed or 12 wind instruments, 2) soprano and 8 stringed or 8 wind instruments - playing parts I-VIII, 3) soprano and 4 stringed or 4 windinstruments - playing parts I-IV. The work was premiered in 1982 in Budapest by the New Music Studio Ensemble, conducted by Albert Simon.
