The Parade of the Tin Soldiers is a jolly march composed originally for Piano and recorded many times over the decades. Each Christmas season at Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan, the Rockettes perform a traditional dance routine to the tune. Of particular charm is the moment near the end when the soldiers fall down in a long chromatic scale.Composer, arranger, conductor, bandleader, Kapellmeister Leon Jessel was active in his native Germany from the late 1800’s until the rise of Nazism ended his career in the 1920’s. Before that, he had worked extensively as a musician and created Germany’s most beloved operetta Schwarzwaldmädel (Black Forest Girl) and others almost as popular.

J. Frederic Staton: The Green Willow

The Green Willow is a straightforward but rewarding piece for Unison Voices with Piano Accompaniment, with traditional lyrics. It was first published in 1926. Dr. J. Frederic Staton (1884-1961) was a British organist, composer, adjudicator and pedagogue. Born in Yorkshire, he was a Parish organist and Choirmaster in Chesterfield from 1899 onwards, and also conducted several music societies and orchestras in the 1920s and 30s. He was an early examiner for the ABRSM, and spent the Second World War in Canada and New Zealand after travelling overseas to examine and adjudicate at Music Festivals. In 1942 he published Sweet Singing In The Choir , a popular handbook of choral technique.
