Hallelujah : from The Cry of Jeremiah

The Cry of Jeremiah, a four movement work for choir and organ commissioned by the American Guild of Organists, was a smashing success at its premiere in 2012. Hallelujah is the final movement from the work which works equally well with piano. Rosephanye's skill at merging the modern day African-American spiritual with traditional choral music is uncanny and very rewarding to sing.

A brilliant fanfare opener followed by an energetic and rhythmic chorus, a contrasting slow middle section that is lush and melodic, a building sequence segment starting with one voice part and adding until all are in, and finally a return to the rhythmic chorus with a satisfying finish. One of the unique features in Rosephanye's writing is that her music works as a church anthem or as a school concert piece, frequently in festivals, too. Medium difficulty.

Come on the Trail of Song : from Three Native American Songs

Memley celebrates the Native American culture with an exquisite triptych of poems and song called Three Native American Settings. The Silver Swan

Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625) remains one of the most notable Renaissance composers of English madrigals. The musical setting of this metaphorical poem has made it his most popular to this day.

Bryan Jeffery Leech, pastor and song writer, blessed us with scores of hymn-songs. This anthem presents a bold and dignified praise for the gift of music. There's some fun levity in this good ol' spiritual, especially the part about the choir singer. You'll have to see the song to know what that's about. Best of all, this arrangement has all of Stacey's stylin' but it's easy, almost all 4-part SATB (only a little soprano divis at the end). For church and school, high school ages and up, easy to medium.

Out of the Deep I Have Called unto Thee

Written in the French organ/ toccata style (in the style of Mulet's Thou Art the Rock), this is a joyful setting of a popular Christmas classic. While not easy, this piece is not outside the reach of the average organist who mayhave experience with this style or with standard French literature. This challenging and rewarding selection is a showstopper for a Christmas organ concert, or a wonderful postlude for Christmas Eve services.
