Dolly Parton Smart Blonde Upd Bam Bk

Dolly Parton Smart Blonde Upd Bam Bk

Smart Blonde: Dolly Parton is a comprehensive and revealing biography which includes interviews with family members, musicians and producers who have worked with Dolly over the years. This new and fully updated edition includes a detailed section on the superstar's legendary performance at 2014's Glastonbury Festival. This book is a detailed assessment of her music as a singer and songwriter over the last forty years, and author Stephen Miller discusses how she shrugged aside the male-dominated world of Nashville in the early 1960s to take hold of her career, sell millions of albums and appear in films with Jane Fonda, Burt Reynolds and Sylvester Stallone. Smart Blonde: Dolly Parton throws new light on her private life - her mysterious and closely guarded relationship with her husband Carl Dean, and her lifelong friend Judy Ogle as well as her seeming love of cosmetic surgery. This is the story of an artist and performer who is deadly serious about music but is often seen as frivolous about her image. The updated version of this Dolly Parton  biography includes details of her Glastonbury 2014 performance, the cherry on the cake of her illustrious career. Finding new fans and putting on a characteristically entertaining show for old ones, the UK tour led to her most recent album being her biggest-selling album in the UK ever. This incredible detailed Dolly Parton biography is a must for all fans, old and new, of this jewel in country music's crown. Boasting an authoritative account of her ongoing career, this is the only biography on the legendary lady, the queen of country, the philanthropist and perfect performer. Stephen Miller practised as a solicitor until the early Nineties when he retired in order to pursue other interests, notably American country music. For six years he reviewed albums, books and concerts and interviewed a variety of artists for a weekly country music show on commercial radio station Scot FM. He is also the author of Johnny Cash: The Life on an American Idol , also published by Omnibus Press. If you've bought the biography and been inspired by Parton 's incredible songwriting, why not learn some of her  Greatest Hits   with our Dolly Parton  sheet music.

Looking Through You: Rare & Unseen Photographs From The Beatles Book Archive

Looking Through You: Rare & Unseen Photographs From The Beatles Book Archive

Looking Through You features over 300 Rare And Unseen Photographs taken from the archives of The Beatles Book, a monthly magazine devoted to the Fab Four. A unique publication, the stunning images captured by photographer Leslie Bryce are collected in this  limited edition numbered slipcase edition , featuring an exclusive facsimile of the 1964 calendar. When publisher Sean O'Mahony launched 'The Beatles Book', he negotiated unprecedented access to the band at their performances, backstage, in the recording studio and at home. Boasting news of the band, articles and exclusive photography, the contents of The Beatles Book were devoured by fans, increasing its circulation from an initial 80,000 copies to a readership in the millions at its peak. Thousands of photographs were taken, but only a fraction of these were ever used, and even then they were often retouched or altered. In Looking Through You,  over 300 of the most beautiful photographs from the magazine's six-year life have been taken from the original negatives, resulting in a portrait of a band that's at once historically significant and still exciting even half a century later. From small gigs in British theatres to TV appearances and foreign tours, their meteoric rise to fame is captured here through a wonderful lens, making this book a visual treat as well as a story of the wildly successful Beatles Book. Featuring a foreword from Jo Adams (daughter of Sean O'Mahony), an insightful introduction by Andy Neill and some fascinating information to accompany the photographs, Looking Through You  is an important visual record of a musical phenomenon. This individually numbered limited edition of 3,000 copies also includes a facsimile of The Beatles Fan Club calendar of 1964.

The Beatles In Liverpool

The Beatles In Liverpool

The story of The Beatles and their native city is one of Rock 'n' Roll's most colourful legends. Even so, until now it has usually been a story patchily told. The Beatles in Liverpool, a companion title to The Beatles in Hamburg, now recreates the authentic flavour of the time and the place that produced the world's most influential rock band.Beatles historian Spencer Leigh separates fact from fiction, while a vividly evocative selection of photographs brings Liverpool's contemporary post-war cityscape to gritty life. Here too is the real story of the Beatles' earliest musical influences as well as the significant - if less obvious - effect of Liverpool's thriving arts culture, where everything from painting to performance art helped to give this tough industrial port its creative heart as well as its abrasive sense of humour.Set in the context of the city, The Beatles' formative period becomes a more coherent story, complementing the Hamburg days and explaining why, despite their differing personalities and collective talents, The Beatles were united by a shared culture that was unlike that of any other British city of the time.Featuring exclusive interviews with fellow musicians, promoters, club managers, audience members, fans, friends and family, together with rare photographs and memorabilia, The Beatles In Liverpool is the definitive, fully illustrated account of the formative years of a legendary band. Fittingly, this book is published on the fiftieth anniversary of the release of their first single, "Love Me Do".

Dream Baby Dream: Suicide - A New York Story

Dream Baby Dream: Suicide - A New York Story

Dream Baby Dream is the story of Suicide , the most enduring of the influential seventies downtown New York punk explosion. From their anarchic and taboo-busting sound during the early years to their sold out shows in July 2015, the band have reinvented both themselves and entire genres. This is the journey of activist artist Alan Vega and jazz musician Martin Rev, also known as Suicide . As a response to the politics, culture and sheer madness of early seventies New York, the artist Alan Vega came together with musician Martin Rev to create the counter-cultural performance art statement that was Suicide . They had been causing havoc with their infamous live performances for several years before the traditional punk scene launched into full effect. Indeed, they were the first band to self-identify with the term 'punk', using it in some of their earliest posters. In this fascinating biography, written with the close help of Rev and Vega, author Kris Needs offers the first detailed accounts of the band's complete career, taking a tour of their atmospheric genesis in New York to their notoriously violent 1978 European tours, their albums that seems to predate genres that did not yet exist, right up to the present day, showing why Suicide  are considered one of the most influential bands ever. Interviews with other pivotal figures including Peter Crowley, Blondie, James Chance and the New York Dolls make Dream Baby Dream the definitive Suicide  biography. A fascinating delve into how this pioneering band came to prominence, and continued making musical waves even up to the present day, Kris Needs's narrative skilfully blends his depth of knowledge with revealing interviews and some fantastic photography to craft this account of the life and times of a unique musical partnership.

Watson Doc Guitar Artistry Gtr Dvd

Watson Doc Guitar Artistry Gtr Dvd

Doc Watson was a legendary performer who blended his traditional Appalachian musical roots with bluegrass, country, gospel and blues to create a unique style and an expansive repertoire. His flatpicking style elevated the acoustic guitar to solo status in bluegrass and country music, and whose interpretations of traditional American music profoundly influenced generations of folk and rock guitarists. Doc was born in Deep Gap, North Carolina on March 3, 1923, into a family already rich in musical tradition. His mother, Annie Watson, sang traditional secular and religious songs, and his father, General Watson, played the banjo, which was Doc's first instrument as well. In 1953 Doc met Jack Williams, a local piano player, and played rockabilly/swing music for seven years, a period and a style that he later revisited in the album Docabilly. But he also continued to play acoustic traditional music with his family and with his banjo playing neighbor, Clarence Tom Ashley. In 1960, spurred by the growing folk revival, folklorists Ralph Rinzler and Eugene Earle came south to record Ashley, and heard Doc Watson in the process. These sessions resulted in Doc's first recordings, Old-Time Music at Clarence Ashley's. In 1961 the Friends of Old-Time Music invited Doc, Ashley, Clint Howard and Fred Price to perform at a now-legendary concert in New York City, and one year later Doc gave his first solo performance at Gerde's Folk City in Greenwich Village. From then on, he was a full-time professional, playing a wide range of concerts, clubs, colleges and festivals, including the Newport Folk Festival and Carnegie Hall. In the late 1960s, Doc was joined on the road by his son Merle, who provided both musical and emotional companionship; with Merle playing guitar and banjo and serving as partner and driver, the father-son team expanded their audience nationwide. Sadly, Merle died in 1985 from a tractor accident. A series of over 50 remarkable recordings, including collaborations with Flatt & Scruggs, Chet Atkins and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, helped make Doc the gold standard among traditional pickers. Doc passed away in 2012. He was 89.
