Digtet Romjulsdrøm udkom første gang i Arbeiderbladet den 3. januar 1959 og blev kendt, da Thoralf Borg satte en melodi til det i 1968. Indtil da havde Alf Prøysen brugt en melodi, der ligner sangen Lijan uti. dalen, da han sang sangen i tv-programmet Ei vise vil jeg synge i 1964.
