This DVD offers a new angle on music tuition and rehearsal! Four classic songs are arranged for a 4 piece band to perform live, and resources to learn each track are provided for each of the 4 instruments; Vocalist, Drummer, Lead Guitarist and Bass Guitarist. Each instrument has its own section featuring 3 types of resource for each song. Watch it, learn it, and nail it!Instrument panel - This divides the screen up into visual areas. For the guitars, fretting hand with fretboard (in reverse 'over head view') picking/plucking hand, song key, chord (dynamically changing through the song), animated tab, status bar for locating your position. For the drummer, 3 camera views on screen; Birds eye, Snare and Hi Hat and feet. For the Vocalist, full screen of Vocalist, dynamic lyrics display, mini view of live performance and key. In this mode the musician can listen to, and switch between, 3 full length backing tracks; Full band including their instrument, Full band minus their instrument or their instrument only. Musician interview - each musician has been interviewed about each song. In these interviews the musicians offer song specific tips and tricks as well as more generic tuition type information. Live performance emulation - Once you have learned the song well enough, you can 'Play gig with the band'. This fires up a pop video style live performance of the song, so you can play along but without any specific visual resources to help. Alternatively, 'Play gig in the band' can be selected. This brings up the same video, without your instrument on the backing track, so you can relay nail that live performance.

Jim Van Cleve - Become a More Complete Fiddler

Jim Van Cleve - Become a More Complete Fiddler

Unlock the secrets of improvising in traditional American fiddle styles with this Grammy-nominated stage and studio master. In only ten years as a professional musician, Jim Van Cleve has made quite a name for himself in bluegrass and acoustic music. He?s spent time with Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, saw his debut solo CD nominated for a Grammy and toured all over the world with Mountain Heart. He?s become a sought-after Nashville session player and one of the most admired fiddlers in bluegrass. Jim covers many things on these 2 DVDs, but they really break into three sections. After some discussion about early learning experiences, AcuTab?s John Lawless leads Jim through a discussion on improvising and building solos on a number of popular bluegrass standards. Two songs, Banks of The Ohio and Pretty Polly, are each played and demonstrated in 3 different keys. Before demonstrating the tunes, Jim breaks down the scale and common positions for each key in turn. He shows where to find the melody, and where adjacent double stops are located, as well as licks and phrases that suit each song. Attention is given to both playing a melody-based solo and what a fiddle can do to assist the band sound in accompaniment. He also carefully teaches four songs he has recorded - three of his own (Nature of the Beast, Devil?s Courthouse and #6 Barn Dance) plus Bill Monroe?s classic Wheel Hoss. After being slowly demonstrated lick-by-lick, they are each shown (fast and slow) in a split screen orientation. A printed booklet with standard notation for each of these songs is included. Two screen orientations are available for the split screen sections, based on whether the left or right hand is of greater interest. Simply switch between them using the Angle key. Over 4 hours of instruction on 2 DVDs.

The Boswell Sisters Collection

The Boswell Sisters Collection

The Boswell Sisters inauspiciously launched their recording career in New Orleans, their hometown, on March 22, 1925, but their first release, I?m Gonna Cry and Nights When I?m Lonely didn?t shake any rafters. Early local appearances featured Connie, the eldest, on cello, Helvetia ("Vet") on violin, and Martha at the piano, but the city?s jazz environment made Connie and Vet switch to saxophone and banjo, respectively. At first, the singing was almost incidental, but it became their ticket to national attention five years later when they moved to New York and became a fixture on radio shows. The Boswell Sisters were notable for their tight harmony as well as their unique ability to modulate pitch and give familiar songs a new melodic twist. They were the cutting edge that inspired future groups, including The Andrews Sisters, who began their own career by emulating them, even down to their Southern accent. The exuberant sisters recorded a string of hits in the 1930s, sometimes teaming up with fellow vocalists, such as Bing Crosby and The Mills Brothers. Instrumental accompaniments are by some of the day?s most popular musicians and bands, including The Dorsey Brothers, Don Redman, Red Nichols, and Benny Goodman. Considering their popularity and impact, the sisters had a relatively brief run, disbanding in 1936 when Martha and Vel married outside of the music industry and decided to give priority to family life. Connie, however, continued and enjoyed a successful solo career. This boxed set contains the entire Boswell Sisters output of commercially released recordings?a remarkable set of performances that paved the way for the vocal trio genre. It also includes a bonus DVD featuring more extraordinary performances.

Colin Magee/Andrew Oxspring: A Big Green Adventure

Colin Magee/Andrew Oxspring: A Big Green Adventure

All year round musical for 7-11 years (KS2)Running time 60 minutes approx. This fast-paced, fun-packed musical pulls no punches in delivering its big green message! Join Snowy and Chip on a voyage of discovery from their threatened forest home to the big city. Meet a host of colourful characters, including the ratty inhabitants of the landfill site, jet-lagged food items on the supermarket shelf, rush-hour drivers and the enigmatic Professor Plantpot, who all show us just how fragile our planet is... and what we can do about it!Plot summaryOur story begins with a meeting of the forest's animal elders, presided over by chief elder, Snowy. The untrustworthy and sneaky Weezil brings news that the humans have plans to 'develop' the forest, and suggests that giving their blessing to such a development would bring the forest residents a wonderful, new, hi-tech standard of living (song - What Kind Of World?'). The elders vote on whether or not to welcome the humans, but with the vote tied it rests with Snowy to decide their fate. Snowy consults the forest goddess, Natura, and is told to take a journey of discovery to the city before making a decision, to find out more about human behaviour. Leaving the future of the forest in the balance, Snowy, and fellow elder and friend Chip, embark on their adventure. As they set off, they experience first hand the plight of the forest's trees, and learn how man's actions have had a devastating effect (song - It Doesn't Pay To Be A Tree). But they also learn how human behaviour can change to reverse this effect. Next, the pair stumble upon the revolting, yet comical rats, Itchy and Scabs, who inhabit the landfill site. They witness the waste created by humans, and how this provides a 'paradise' for the roguish rodents! (song - Welcome To Our Paradise.)Next it's on to the supermarket, where Snowy and Chip meet some rather jet-lagged food items, who explain the environmental impact of their being flown thousands of miles just to satisfy human tastes for exotic and un-seasonal produce (song - What's The Deal?). Having learned what can and should be done to improve this situation, Snowy and Chip then encounter rush hour in the city (song - Driving Song)! They meet a very pushy car salesman, only to be 'rescued' by the brilliant Professor Plantpot who, along with some 'green' friends, explains that many humans do care about the planet, and are changing their behaviour accordingly.Snowy and Chip learn how, with a little thought and effort, humans can reduce global warming, save energy, and create less waste (song - Switch It Off). The professor also demonstrates the limitless possibilities of recycling (song - R.E.C.Y.C.L.E.), unveiling Robbie - a robot made entirely from junk! With their new friends in tow, Snowy and Chip are in a race against time to get back to the forest, which has now fallen under the control of Weezil! Will the humans and their bulldozers be welcomed with open arms? Will forest life ever be the same again? That remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, with the final song (Make A Change Today) still ringing in their ears, your audience will feel uplifted, inspired, and above all... thoroughly entertained!
